Prof. Ahmad Safuan Bin A Rashid

Biography:

Prof. Ahmad Safuan Bin A Rashid has started his career as a university academician for 11 years and 6 months since March, 2005. Over the years, he has taught 77 credit-hour courses in this university (56 and 21 credit-hour courses for the Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels respectively), supervised 5 PhD students as a main supervisor (one graduated in November 2016), led 12 out of 30 research projects that he is involved in (total MYR2153036.00), led and assisted in 5 consultation works (MYR596354.41), received 1 intellectual property (IP) and 4 national awards during the National Geotechnical Engineering Festival in 2014. Prof. Ahmad Safuan Bin A Rashid is a Bachelor holder in Civil Engineering discipline from UTM. He has obtained a Master of Civil Engineering (Geotechnics) from UTM in 2005. Then, he pursued his PhD study in Geotechnical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Sheffield, England and graduated with his doctorate in November 2011. His research was related to the failure behavior of soft soil treated with a group of soil cement columns formed by the Deep Mixing (DM) method. He has participated in the 10th Young Geotechnical Engineerings’ Symposium in London in 2008 and has prepared and published 5 publications from his PhD work. To date, he has published 57 journal papers, 20 papers for technical proceedings, and 1 book chapter. Out of 57 journals, 25 are indexed in the ISI database, 30 are indexed by Scopus, and the rest (3 journal papers) are classified as non-indexed refereed journals. The total cumulative impact factors that he has contributed to UTM for sustaining research university status were 23.77. Apart from writing, he actively involves himself as a manuscript reviewer and has reviewed more than 30 journals, including the Journal of Geological and Geotechnical Engineering, International Journal of GEOMATE, and Geotechnical Testing Journal (ASTM).

Prof. Ahmad Safuan Bin A Rashid has also been invited as a keynote speaker in 5 international conferences and has participated in various workshops, seminars, and training programs related to geotechnical engineering. He is a member of several professional organizations such as the Malaysian Geotechnical Society, American Society of Civil Engineers, and the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering.

In terms of teaching, he is known for his interactive and engaging teaching style, and he has received positive feedback from students and colleagues alike. He has also developed several new courses for the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including a course on advanced geotechnical engineering topics.

In addition to his academic work, Prof. Ahmad Safuan Bin A Rashid is also actively engaged in community outreach programs, such as providing technical assistance to local communities on geotechnical issues and participating in charitable activities.

Prof. Xin Ren

Nanjing Tech University, China

Biography:

Dr. Xin Ren is a Full Professor in the Centre of Innovative Structures, School of Civil Engineering, Nanjing Tech University. Vebleo Fellow, Winner of Jiangsu Outstanding Youth Fund in China. He was recognized as one of the Top 2% Scientist as per Stanford University 2 years in a row. He is the Member of the International Negative Poisson's Ratio Materials and Structure Academic Committee. He acted as guest editor for three international journals.His research interest areas includes new materials and structures, composite materials, and topology optimization, and he has published over 70 papers and the total number of citation nearly achieved 4000.

Prof. Mohamed A. Ismail

Brunel London School, North China University of Technology, China

Biography:

Prof. Ismail is currently working at Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Brunel London School North China University of Technology, Beijing, China since Sept. 2023. Before that, he was working as a full professor at Dept. of Civil Engineering, Miami College of Henan University, Kaifeng, China from October 2018 until Aug. 2023. Before joining Miami College, Prof. Ismail was working as an Associate Professor at Civil and Construction Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering and Science, Curtin University Malaysia, Sarawak, Malaysia. He received his B. Sc. and M. Sc. Degrees from Alexandria University, Egypt in 1991 and 1996, respectively and his PhD from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore in 2003. Prof. Ismail teaches undergraduate courses in Civil Engineering Materials, Concrete Technology, Engineering Mechanics, Reinforced Concrete Structural Design, Engineering and Environmental Principles and Theories, Construction Management, Concrete Laboratory, Mechanics of Solids, Structural Analysis and Fluid mechanics. For graduate students, he teaches courses in Advanced Concrete Technology and Advanced Structural Analysis. His research work includes Concrete Technology, Smart Materials in Construction, High Performance Concrete, Durability of Concrete, NDT, Arc Thermal Metal Spray Technology, Sustainable Building Materials and Protection Methods of Reinforced Concrete Structures. Prof. Ismail has extensive teaching and research experiences over 25 years in Canada, South Korea, Malaysia, Egypt, Japan and China. He also had broad experience at Engineering Consultancies and Oil & Gas Firms. Prof. Ismail has published more than 120 papers in referred Journals and International Conferences and 5 Books. He served as a reviewer for many International Journals, Editorial Board Member of few journals and Editor-in-chief of Challenge Journal of Concrete research letters.

Assoc. Prof. Bin Hu

Beijing University of Technology, China

Biography:

Bin Hu, born in June 1972, graduated from the School of Architecture at Harbin Institute of Technology in 2002, majoring in Architecture. He holds a PhD, associate professor, and master's supervisor. He is also the director of the Underground Space Planning and Design Research Institute at Beijing Institute of Technology, a national first-class registered architect, and the deputy chief architect of the school's design institute. Young and middle-aged backbone teachers in Beijing, outstanding talents in the Organization Department. Main research areas: public building design and theory, urban design, underground space planning and design, rail transit and urban integration development, etc. Engaged in architectural design and urban design theory and practice for over 20 years. Responsible for and participated in more than 10 national, provincial, and ministerial level scientific research projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Beijing Municipal Natural Science Foundation of China, the Beijing Municipal Education Commission Fund, and the Beijing Municipal Planning and Self Commission Special Topics. Published over 50 papers as the first author, including more than 20 papers in the core journals of Peking University.
